Yong Wan Jun, also known as Jun Yong was born in Penang, Malaysia. She is 20 years of age and the only daughter in the family. She has two brothers. Jun Yong enjoys singing, dancing, reading and indulging in chocolates.
During her early years, Jun Yong attended the Cluster School of Excellence SJK(c) Lick Hung. The competitive bug bit her since a tender age, as she represented her school from 1999-2004 in numerous singing and multilingual public speaking competitions. She was the Champion of KL-Selangor District National Primary School Singing Competition, among others.
At the age of 12, Jun Yong made it to the National Youth Choir, where she had the honor of being coached by the highly accoladed soprano Syafinaz Selamat. Delivering the valedictory speech at SJK(c) Lick Hung’s 2004 graduating ceremony is one of Jun Yong’s fondest memories.
Jun Yong gratuated fom SMK Subang Utama in the year 2009. Whist in high school, she was an active participant in extracurricular activities. She was a school representative in Track and Field. Jun Yong was also the Head of Advertising for her school’s award winning magazine. Yong got her first experience of competing with other beauties when she was crowned Prom Queen in high school.
In 2010, Jun Yong enrolled in the American Degree Transfer Program at INTI College Subang. She made it into the Dean’s List of her program. Her thirst for knowledge doesn’t stop there. In December 2011, Jun Yong went to Beijing and participated in a language teaching course from the Beijing Language and Culture Univerity. Today, she is a certified teacher of teaching chinese to speakers of foreign languages.
Determined to expand her craft and knowledge, Jun Yong is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Journalism at Emerson College Boston, United States of America.
Her ambitions did not stop there. Aspiring to be a journalist, Yong whose passion lies in giving a voice to those in need wishes to help make a change through active communication and participation. She regularly participates in volunteer work, spending time with children at homeless shelter Ti-ratana. Also, Jun Yong recently participated in the Singapore Red Cross Charity Bazaar in her reign as Miss Malaysia Tourism.
Jun Yong also loves children, and she enjoys her work as a part time teacher at a local kindergarten.
Currently, Jun Yong is working hard on her reign as Miss Malaysia Tourism and focusing on representing Malaysia for the Miss Tourism International 2012/2013 pageant. The pageant will be held on Dec 31 in Malaysia.
Jun Yong hopes to continue to be an Ambassador for her country and gain the support of her fellow Malaysians. Malaysia Boleh!
